EXILE & BLU - Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them - LP
Blu & Exile, last seen collaborating on 2007′s great Below The Heavens, have another full release in the works.
Californian rapper Blu made waves around the middle of the last decade with a set of highly assured and thoughtful underground releases. He’s worked with Mainframe as Johnson&Johnson, and signed to (and subsequently departed from) Warner Bros. Producer/rapper Exile, meanwhile, has been around the block for a minute. In a former life, he recorded with Aloe Blacc as Emanon back in the mid 1990s. Following on from 2006′s Dirty Science LP, he’s somewhat reinvented himself as a semi-experimental beat explorer: 2010′s Radio AM/FM, for example, was a wonderful piece of bricolage cobbled together from radio recordings.
New album Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them originally leaked online at the tail end of last year, but vanished from view without much fanfare. According to Prefix, the album is now set to get an official release in September. The LP – originally recorded in 2009 – will be augmented by new material, and will be freshly mixed and mastered. Expect an album of lush, swoonsome and bright-eyed hip-hop. The pair also have an EP on the way on July 24, titled Maybe One Day.
