"We are very proud to unveil our new compilation series
focused on progressive jazz beatstrumentals. To showcase beatmaking as
both an evolution and revolution of jazz music, we have asked some of
our favourite producers to craft an instrumental piece
inspired by jazz and its improvisational and experimental
aesthetics. The result is a
small collection of forward-thinking tracks
paying homage to music legends like
DJ Shadow, Ahmad Jamal, Nujabes,
Yusef Lateef, J Dilla, Bill Evans, and many more
in the realm of both
jazz and hip hop.
This chapter of Jazzvolution is the first in an ongoing series that
will seek to explore the boundaries of hip hop and jazz fusion, as well
as generate awareness and support for various charities and social
development initiatives. Chapter 1 seeks to raise funds for
the
incredible Beat Making Lab project.
Headed by Apple Juice Kid and Professor Pierce Freelon (of the
University of North Carolina), Beat Making Lab brings mobile production
studio equipment and expert instruction to impoverished communities
around the world. Organizing small and in depth community workshops
focused on beatmaking, the project provides a musical voice to the
voiceless, an outlet for communication an artistic expression. Beat
Making Lab has already organized workshops in The Democratic Republic of
Congo, Senegal, Ethiopia, Fiji, and Panama. With your support, Beat
Making Lab can continue its mission of bringing musical empowerment to
the masses.
Huge respect to all the artists who contributed, each have impressive
discographies of music that merit gross investigation. These beats
speak for themselves and fans of hip hop and jazz are sure to be
enthralled by the sophisticated and abstract stylings that abound on
this release. After a few installments in the Jazzvolution series we
intend to press some limited edition vinyl records, so stay tuned for
plenty more sonic bliss in the future."
